The idyllic village of Bernkastel on the banks of the Moselle river is already mentioned in documents from the 7th century. It enjoyed its heyday in the Middle Ages. As early as 1291, the Primum Castellum, as the Romans called it, received its city status from Rudolf von Habsburg. During the subsequent centuries, Bernkastel was ruled by the arch bishops of Trier. Due to its mild climate and precious wines, the lords of Trier made it their residence of choice.
The magnificent half-timbered houses of Bernkastel are living witnesses of these times. The hotel is considered to be one of the prettiest buildings. The antiques have been kept here throughout the years with loving sense of tradition.
